Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 12 ounces canned crushed tomatoes or fresh ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in the saucepan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion; sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and blend the sauce until smooth using an immersion blender.
- Stir in heavy cream and return to low heat for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
