Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 ounces canned crushed tomatoes or fresh ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in the saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion; sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat and blend the sauce until smooth using an immersion blender.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and return to low heat for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
