Ingredients:

  • 1 (16-ounce/454g) package pre-made gnocchi (preferably potato gnocchi)
  • ½ cup (1 stick/113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • ¼ cup fresh sage leaves, roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: Pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package directions. They are ready when they float to the surface.
  2. While the gnocchi are cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown color and has a nutty aroma. Watch carefully to avoid burning!
  3. Add the chopped sage leaves to the browned butter. Cook for about 1 minute, or until the sage is fragrant and slightly crispy.
  4. Using a slotted spoon or spider, transfer the cooked gnocchi directly to the skillet with the brown butter sage sauce. Toss gently to coat.
  5. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add red pepper flakes if desired.
  6. Serve the gnocchi hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese.
