Ingredients:
- 1 (16-ounce/454g) package pre-made gnocchi (preferably potato gnocchi)
- ½ cup (1 stick/113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- ¼ cup fresh sage leaves, roughly chopped
- ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: Pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package directions. They are ready when they float to the surface.
- While the gnocchi are cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown color and has a nutty aroma. Watch carefully to avoid burning!
- Add the chopped sage leaves to the browned butter. Cook for about 1 minute, or until the sage is fragrant and slightly crispy.
- Using a slotted spoon or spider, transfer the cooked gnocchi directly to the skillet with the brown butter sage sauce. Toss gently to coat.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add red pepper flakes if desired.
- Serve the gnocchi hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese.
