Ingredients:
- 2 (15-ounce) cans yams, drained (about 850g total), drained well
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange drained canned yams evenly in the baking dish.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves (if using), and salt. Whisk constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth and bubbling gently.
- Pour the candied sauce evenly over the yams.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the yams are heated through and slightly caramelized at the edges.
- Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows the sauce to thicken slightly.
