Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and diced (about 6 cups/720g)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) lemon juice
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon (1 ml) ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) salt
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces/432g) yellow cake mix
  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup (170g) chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Caramel bits (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and dice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple mixture.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix.
  5. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts evenly over the buttered cake mix (optional).
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with caramel bits if using. Let cool slightly before serving this caramel apple dump cake.
