Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and diced (about 6 cups/720g)
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) lemon juice
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon (1 ml) ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) salt
- 1 box (15.25 ounces/432g) yellow cake mix
- ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ cup (170g) chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- ½ cup (120 ml) caramel sauce
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) Caramel bits (Optional)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and dice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple mixture.
- Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts evenly over the buttered cake mix (optional).
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove from oven and immediately drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with caramel bits if using. Let cool slightly before serving this caramel apple dump cake.
