Ingredients:
- 6 medium fresh apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and diced (About 750 g)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (25 g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5 mL)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (2.5 mL)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (1.25 mL)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 g)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30 mL)
- 1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) yellow cake mix
- 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, about 50 g)
- 1/2 cup prepared caramel sauce (About 120 mL)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine diced apples, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, sugar, and lemon juice (if using). Toss to coat apples evenly.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the apple mixture. Distribute it as evenly as possible.
- Slowly and evenly drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix. Try to cover as much of the cake mix as you can.
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the buttered cake mix (optional).
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly (about 10 minutes). Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
