Ingredients:

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix (432g)
  • 1 (21 ounce) can chocolate pie filling (595g)
  • 1 cup milk (240ml)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted (113g)
  • Optional: 1 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or dark) (170g)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (50g)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Pour the chocolate cake mix into the prepared baking pan. Spread evenly.
  3. Spoon the chocolate pie filling over the cake mix. Spread evenly.
  4. Gently pour the milk evenly over the cake mix and pie filling. Try to cover the entire surface.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts (if using) evenly over the buttered surface.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs).
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Can be served warm or at room temperature.
