Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (750ml) Sparkling Wine (Brut Prosecco, Champagne, or Spanish Cava), thoroughly chilled
  • 1 ½ cups (375 ml) Fresh Orange Juice, pulp-free and thoroughly chilled
  • 6-8 thin Orange Slices or Twists (Optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. The Chilling Commitment: Ensure all champagne flutes, the sparkling wine, and the orange juice are fully chilled. Place the flutes in the refrigerator or freezer for at least 15 minutes before serving. If using fresh oranges, juice them now and strain out any pulp. Return the juice to the refrigerator until serving.
  2. Measure and Pour the Juice: Place the chilled flutes on a steady surface. Carefully pour the orange juice into the bottom of each glass. For a classic 1:1 ratio, use approximately 60 ml (2 fl oz) of juice per glass.
  3. Introduce the Fizz: Open the chilled bottle of sparkling wine carefully. Tilt the flute slightly and slowly pour the sparkling wine down the side of the glass. This helps preserve the carbonation. Fill the glass to approximately half a centimetre (¼ inch) from the rim, allowing the bubbles to settle naturally.
  4. Garnish and Serve: If garnishing, gently place a thin orange slice on the rim of the glass or drop a small orange twist directly into the drink. Do not stir the mixture, as this disperses the bubbles. Serve immediately, keeping the remaining sparkling wine in an ice bucket.
