  1. Place the honey and fresh lemon juice directly into the heat-proof mug.
  2. Measure and pour the chosen spirit (whisky, bourbon, or dark rum) into the mug over the honey and lemon.
  3. If using, place the whole cloves into the peel of a lemon slice, then add the lemon slice to the mug.
  4. Carefully pour the boiling water over the other ingredients until the mug is nearly full.
  5. Use a spoon to gently stir the mixture until the honey is completely dissolved into the hot liquid.
  6. Place the cinnamon stick into the mug. Serve immediately while piping hot.
