Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240ml) Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) Dill pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Capers, drained and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) Black pepper, freshly ground
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, capers, lemon juice, dill, parsley, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  2. Whisk or stir the ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Ensure no lumps of mayonnaise remain.
  3. Taste the tartar sauce and adjust the seasoning to your liking. Add more lemon juice for extra tang, more dill for a fresher flavour, or more pepper for a bolder taste.
  4. For best results, cover the tartar sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Serve the tartar sauce immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
