Ingredients:
- 1 (12 ounce) can Dr Pepper (355ml)
- 1 cup ketchup (240ml)
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (60ml)
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce (60ml)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed (30g)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (5g)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (2.5g)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1.25g)
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat) (1.25g)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15ml)
- 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped (approx. 75g, about 1/2 cup chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 6g, about 1 tablespoon)
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour Dr Pepper, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) into the saucepan with the sautéed onions and garlic.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool slightly. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
