Ingredients:
- 6 large apples (approx. 1.3 kg), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch wedges
- 100g granulated white sugar
- 15ml lemon juice
- 8g cornstarch
- 5g ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- 90g old-fashioned rolled oats
- 125g all-purpose flour
- 150g packed light or dark brown sugar
- 115g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x9 inch square baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and level the surface.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to work the butter in until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple layer without pressing it down.
- Bake on the center rack for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and fruit juices are bubbling vigorously.
- Allow the crisp to rest for 10–15 minutes before serving to let the sauce thicken.
