Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp (5ml) garlic powder
  • 1 tsp (5ml) onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) smoked paprika (optional, for that BBQ touch)
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) kosher salt (or sea salt)
  • 4 burger buns (brioche, sesame, or your favourite)
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, pickles, your favourite burger sauce!

Instructions:

  1. Gently combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), black pepper, and salt in a mixing bowl. Be careful not to overmix; you want to keep it light for a tender burger.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb – this helps prevent them from puffing up like a football on the grill.
  3. Preheat your gas grill to medium-high heat (around 375-400°F or 190-205°C). Make sure the grill grates are clean; use a grill brush if needed.
  4. Place the patties on the preheated grill. Don't overcrowd the grill – you want good airflow.
  5. Cook to Desired Doneness: For medium-rare (130-135°F or 54-57°C): Cook for 3-4 minutes per side. For medium (140-145°F or 60-63°C): Cook for 4-5 minutes per side. For medium-well (150-155°F or 66-68°C): Cook for 5-6 minutes per side. For well-done (160°F+ or 71°C+): Cook for 6-7 minutes per side. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
  6. During the last minute of cooking, add cheese slices to the burgers. Close the grill lid to help the cheese melt.
  7. Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender burger.
  8. Toast the burger buns (if desired). Add your favorite toppings to the buns and place the cooked burger patties on top. Serve immediately.
