Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (900g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp (5ml) garlic powder
- 1 tsp (5ml) onion powder
- 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) smoked paprika (optional, for that BBQ touch)
- 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) kosher salt (or sea salt)
- 4 burger buns (brioche, sesame, or your favourite)
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, pickles, your favourite burger sauce!
Instructions:
- Gently combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), black pepper, and salt in a mixing bowl. Be careful not to overmix; you want to keep it light for a tender burger.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb – this helps prevent them from puffing up like a football on the grill.
- Preheat your gas grill to medium-high heat (around 375-400°F or 190-205°C). Make sure the grill grates are clean; use a grill brush if needed.
- Place the patties on the preheated grill. Don't overcrowd the grill – you want good airflow.
- Cook to Desired Doneness: For medium-rare (130-135°F or 54-57°C): Cook for 3-4 minutes per side. For medium (140-145°F or 60-63°C): Cook for 4-5 minutes per side. For medium-well (150-155°F or 66-68°C): Cook for 5-6 minutes per side. For well-done (160°F+ or 71°C+): Cook for 6-7 minutes per side. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
- During the last minute of cooking, add cheese slices to the burgers. Close the grill lid to help the cheese melt.
- Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender burger.
- Toast the burger buns (if desired). Add your favorite toppings to the buns and place the cooked burger patties on top. Serve immediately.
