Ingredients:

  • 5 fl oz (45 ml) London Dry Gin
  • 5 fl oz (45 ml) Sweet Vermouth (Italian Rosso)
  • 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) Fernet-Branca (4 heavy dashes)
  • Large, dense ice cubes
  • 1 thick piece Orange Peel, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Chill the Glass: Place the coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes, or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the cocktail mixture.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the gin, sweet vermouth, and the measured amount of Fernet-Branca into the cocktail stirring glass.
  3. Add Ice: Fill the stirring glass three-quarters full with large, fresh, dense ice cubes.
  4. Stir to Perfection: Stir the mixture gently but consistently with the bar spoon for approximately 30–45 seconds. The exterior of the mixing glass should become thoroughly frosted.
  5. Strain: Empty the chilled coupe glass and strain the cold liquid into the glass using a strainer.
  6. Garnish: Take the thick slice of orange peel and express its essential oils over the drink by gently twisting it. Run the peel around the rim before dropping it into the drink or discarding it.
