Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432g) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream
  • 1/2 cup (113g / 1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (16g) ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons (28g / 1/4 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 tablespoons (57g / 1/2 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons (45-60ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, sour cream, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter until it forms a thick, crumbly mixture.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the batter. Pour the remaining cake batter on top and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, melt butter and honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar, milk (starting with 3 tablespoons), and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
  7. While the cake is still warm, pour the honey glaze evenly over the top. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy this delicious honey bun cake!
