Ingredients:
- 1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz / 450 g), thawed
- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups (500 ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (30 g) cornstarch
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons orange blossom water (or rose water, optional)
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and cornstarch over medium heat. Whisk until smooth.
- Cook until the mixture thickens, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat, whisk in eggs, vanilla, and orange blossom water. Set aside to cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the baking dish with melted butter.
- Lay down a sheet of phyllo and brush with butter. Repeat layering (about 8 sheets).
- Pour the cooled filling over the layered phyllo, spreading evenly.
- Layer more phyllo sheets (about 6-8), brushing each with butter.
- Cut into squares before baking. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Boil sugar, water, and lemon juice for 10 minutes. Cool slightly before drizzling over baked Warbat.
- Let cool, drizzle with syrup, and serve.
