Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1 pint (473ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (optional, but recommended)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- 1 1/2 cups (approximately 150g) freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the heavy cream, garlic powder, nutmeg (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. Do not boil.
- Reduce heat to low. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, a little at a time, until it's completely melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve immediately over cooked pasta or your favorite dish.
