Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp (6g) fresh orange zest
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1/2 tsp (2g) baking powder
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp (1g) orange zest

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, whisking constantly until it foams and turns a deep amber color with a nutty aroma.
  3. Remove butter from heat and whisk in the brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract, beating vigorously until the batter is emulsified and slightly lightened in color.
  5. Stir in the orange zest, then gently fold in the flour, salt, and baking powder using a spatula until no streaks of flour remain.
  6. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, until edges are light golden and the center is slightly soft.
  7. Cool brownies completely in the pan. Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest, then drizzle over the top.
