Ingredients:

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Generously grease the ceramic insert of your slow cooker with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking and crusting.
  2. Combine the steel cut oats, water, milk, salt, vanilla, diced apples, cinnamon, and maple syrup in the slow cooker and stir well.
  3. Secure the lid and set the slow cooker to LOW for 7 to 8 hours. Do not use the HIGH setting to avoid scorching.
  4. In the morning, stir the oats for 60 seconds to incorporate the natural starches and create a creamy consistency.
  5. Adjust the thickness by adding an extra splash of warm milk or water if desired before serving.
