Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1¾ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup toasted sunflower seeds (optional)
- ¼ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and salt.
- Create a well in the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer to a clean surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently. Shape into a round or place into a greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
