Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground chuck (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced (about 2 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any preferred condiments

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sprinkle with sugar and salt, and stir. Cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep gold and caramelized.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground chuck, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Gently mix until combined, then divide into 4 equal portions and form into patties.
  3. Preheat the grill or skillet to medium-high. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, flip, and add cheese if using. Cook for another 3-5 minutes for medium doneness or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  4. Toast the burger buns if desired. Layer lettuce, the cooked patty, caramelized onions, and additional toppings before closing the bun.
  5. Enjoy the burgers immediately with your choice of sides!
