Ingredients:

  • 2 oz (60 ml) Japanese whiskey (e.g., Yamazaki)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) umeshu (Japanese plum wine)
  • 2 dashes of aromatic bitters (e.g., Angostura)
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 twist of orange peel
  • Optional: A single ume (plum) for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill the Old Fashioned glass with ice water to chill.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine the Japanese whiskey, umeshu, and aromatic bitters.
  3. Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes.
  4. Use a bar spoon to stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.
  5. Discard the ice water from the Old Fashioned glass.
  6. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.
  7. Twist the orange peel over the drink to release oils and drop it in. Optionally, add a ume for visual appeal.
