Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs (680g) Ground Beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- 1 small Yellow Onion, finely diced (about ½ cup or 75g)
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 large Egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce (30ml)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika (5ml)
- ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder (2.5ml)
- ½ teaspoon Onion Powder (2.5ml)
- Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil or other high-heat oil, for cooking (30ml)
- 4 Burger Buns (Brioche, sesame seed, or your favourite)
- Toppings of your choice: Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Cheese, Bacon, etc.
- Condiments of your choice: Ketchup, Mustard, Mayonnaise, Burger Sauce, etc.
Instructions:
- Gently combine ground beef, diced onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Do not overmix!
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indent in the centre of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
- Cover the patties with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes. This helps them hold their shape and stay juicy.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet (or heavy-bottomed frying pan) over medium-high heat until shimmering. The pan needs to be HOT!
- Carefully place the patties into the hot skillet, leaving space between them. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side, until a dark, golden-brown crust forms.
- Reduce the heat to medium and continue cooking for another 5-8 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (160°F/71°C for medium). If the burgers start to brown too quickly, reduce the heat further.
- Remove the burgers from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier burger.
- Toast the burger buns if desired. Assemble the burgers with your favourite toppings and condiments. Serve immediately and enjoy these delicious stove top burgers!
