Ingredients:
- 1 lb 93/7 Lean Ground Beef
- 1 small Yellow Onion, finely minced
- 1 Green Bell Pepper, finely minced
- 2 cloves Garlic, grated
- 0.5 tsp Sea Salt
- 0.5 tsp Cracked Black Pepper
- 0.5 cup Tomato Sauce, no salt added
- 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 2 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- 0.25 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 12 Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- 6 slices Thinly Sliced Sharp Cheddar
- 2 tbsp Salted Butter, melted
- 1 tsp Everything Bagel Seasoning
Instructions:
- Place the 1 lb ground beef in a large skillet over medium high heat until a dark crust forms.
- Add the minced onion and green pepper to the pan. Note: The moisture from the veggies will help deglaze the beef bits.
- Stir in the grated garlic and cook for 60 seconds until the scent fills the kitchen.
- Clear a small circle in the middle, add the 2 tbsp tomato paste, and fry for 2 minutes until it turns dark red.
- Pour in the tomato sauce, balsamic vinegar, Dijon, maple syrup, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce is velvety and thick.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls attached.
- Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer the cheddar slices across the bottom half of the rolls to create a moisture barrier.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly over the cheese, then place the top half of the rolls on top.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the tops are golden and the cheese has melted.
