Ingredients:
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the ground cumin, ground coriander, smoked paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, salt, and black pepper to create the shawarma spice blend.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the boneless, skinless chicken thighs with olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, tomato paste, and the prepared spice blend until the meat is evenly coated.
- Transfer the marinated chicken into the slow cooker, nesting them closely together. Cover and cook on High for 4 hours or Low for 8 hours until tender.
- Preheat the oven broiler. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place it on a baking sheet, pouring 2-3 tablespoons of the remaining cooking liquid over the meat.
- Broil for 3-5 minutes until the edges are charred and crispy.
- Prepare the garlic yogurt sauce by whisking together plain Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and salt in a small bowl.
