Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the ground cumin, ground coriander, smoked paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, salt, and black pepper to create the shawarma spice blend.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the boneless, skinless chicken thighs with olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, tomato paste, and the prepared spice blend until the meat is evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the marinated chicken into the slow cooker, nesting them closely together. Cover and cook on High for 4 hours or Low for 8 hours until tender.
  4. Preheat the oven broiler. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place it on a baking sheet, pouring 2-3 tablespoons of the remaining cooking liquid over the meat.
  5. Broil for 3-5 minutes until the edges are charred and crispy.
  6. Prepare the garlic yogurt sauce by whisking together plain Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and salt in a small bowl.
