Ingredients:

  • 4 cups sliced fresh peaches
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the 1/2 cup of butter in a 9x13 inch baking dish and set it in the oven to melt until bubbling.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup of sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat evenly.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in the milk until just combined, leaving small lumps.
  4. Remove the baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter directly over the melted butter. Do not stir.
  5. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir. The batter will rise through the fruit during baking.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the fruit juices are bubbling.
