Ingredients:
- 4 cups sliced fresh peaches
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar, divided
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 0.25 tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup whole milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the 1/2 cup of butter in a 9x13 inch baking dish and set it in the oven to melt until bubbling.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup of sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat evenly.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in the milk until just combined, leaving small lumps.
- Remove the baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter directly over the melted butter. Do not stir.
- Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir. The batter will rise through the fruit during baking.
- Bake for 45 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the fruit juices are bubbling.
