Ingredients:
- 1 pound (454g) Ground Beef, 80/20
- 1/2 medium Onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 (15 ounce / 425g) can Tomato Sauce
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) Tomato Paste
- 2 tablespoons (30g) Brown Sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) Yellow Mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) Chili Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) Salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) Black Pepper, or to taste
- 4 Hamburger Buns, split
- 1 tablespoon (14g) Butter (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the beef and onions. Stir well to combine. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- While the Sloppy Joe mix simmers, lightly butter the inside of the hamburger buns (if using). Toast in a dry skillet or under the broiler until golden brown.
- Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom buns. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
