Ingredients:
- 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Granny Smith)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup apple cider or apple juice
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cloves
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Core the apples, leaving about 1/2 inch (1.25cm) at the bottom intact. Brush the outside of the apples with melted butter.
- In a medium bowl, combine the rolled oats, brown sugar, chopped nuts, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Cut in the cold butter cubes using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter cubes until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Divide the filling evenly among the cored apples, packing it down lightly.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the filled apples.
- Place the filled apples in the baking dish. Pour the apple cider or apple juice into the bottom of the dish.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crumble topping is golden brown.
- Let the baked apples cool slightly before serving.
