Ingredients:
- 2 cups (475ml) whole milk (or plant-based alternative)
- 2 ounces (55g) bittersweet chocolate (70% cacao or higher), chopped
- 1 tablespoon (7g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (or to taste)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: Whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, cinnamon sticks for garnish
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, whisk together the milk, chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk constantly until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Be careful not to let it boil!
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes, whisking occasionally. This allows the flavours to meld together beautifully.
- Give it a taste! Add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter drink, or more cayenne pepper if you want more of a kick.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, or a cinnamon stick.
