Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups (590ml) fruit juice (preferably a mix of cherry, orange, and lemon juices)
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (120ml) cold water
  • 4 packets (about 28g) unflavored gelatin
  • A pinch of salt
  • Food coloring (optional, to enhance color)
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tsp citric acid (optional, for extra tartness)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine cold water and gelatin; let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, gently heat the fruit juice over low heat. Add sugar and salt; stir until dissolved.
  3. Remove the juice mixture from heat. Slowly whisk in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved.
  4. If desired, add food coloring to achieve the desired hue.
  5. Pour the mixture into candy molds or a lined baking dish.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully set.
  7. Mix granulated sugar with citric acid in a bowl.
  8. Once set, remove the gelatin from the molds or cut into shapes. Roll or toss in the sugar mixture to coat.
