Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (454g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced (approx. ½ cup/75g)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (approx. 1 tsp/3g)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten (approx. 50g)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (30ml)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (15ml)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (5ml)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (2.5ml)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (2.5ml)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper (2.5ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (2.5ml)
  • 4 burger buns (brioche, sesame, or your favorite!)
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Gently combine ground beef, diced onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Don't overmix!
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a tablespoon of oil.
  4. Grill or pan-fry the burgers for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium. For well-done, cook to 165°F (74°C).
  5. Lightly toast the burger buns while the burgers are resting (Optional).
  6. Place the cooked burger on the bottom bun. Add your desired toppings. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
