Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) Soy Sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Pineapple Juice (fresh or unsweetened canned)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) Vegetable Oil (or other neutral oil)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced (approx. 2 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Fresh Ginger, grated (approx. 1 thumb-sized piece)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional, for a little kick)
  • 1 green onion, sliced.

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, pineapple juice, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Place the beef in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container. Pour the marinade over the beef, ensuring it's fully submerged.
  3. Seal the bag/container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours. The longer it marinates, the more tender it will become. Don't marinate for longer than 4 hours, or the beef can become mushy.
  4. Remove the beef from the marinade (discard the marinade – don't reuse it!), pat it dry with paper towels (for better searing!), and cook according to your preferred method (grilling, pan-frying, roasting).
