Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) ground cardamom
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground black pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground star anise
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) chili flakes

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine all the ground spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, black pepper, and optional star anise and chili flakes).
  2. Stir well until all the spices are evenly distributed. Make sure there are no clumps.
  3. Transfer the spiced tea blend to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dark, and dry place to maintain freshness.
  4. To brew, add 1 teaspoon of the spice blend to a cup of hot water or your favourite tea (such as black tea or rooibos).
  5. Allow the tea to steep for 3-5 minutes, or until the desired strength is achieved.
  6. Strain the tea through a tea strainer or infuser to remove any spice particles.
  7. Serve hot, with milk and sugar (or honey) to taste, if desired.
