Ingredients:

  • 2 fl oz (60 ml) Aged Dark Rum
  • 2 fl oz (60 ml) Light or White Rum
  • 2 fl oz (60 ml) Fresh Passion Fruit Syrup
  • 1 fl oz (30 ml) Fresh Orange Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 fl oz (30 ml) Fresh Lime Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) High-quality Grenadine (optional)
  • 1 Orange Wheel or Half-Slice, for garnish
  • 2 Maraschino Cherries, for garnish
  • Sufficient Ice (cubes for shaking, crushed for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the Glass: Place the Hurricane glass (or equivalent large glass) in the freezer while preparing the cocktail to ensure optimal coldness.
  2. Fill the Glass: Once chilled, fill the Hurricane glass completely with fresh crushed or pebble ice. Set aside.
  3. Measure Juices: Measure and pour the fresh lime juice and fresh orange juice into the base of the cocktail shaker.
  4. Add Syrups and Rum: Add the passion fruit syrup (and optional grenadine) followed by both the light rum and the aged dark rum.
  5. Add Ice for Shaking: Fill the cocktail shaker three-quarters full with fresh, robust ice cubes.
  6. Seal and Shake: Seal the shaker firmly. Shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until the outside of the shaker is thoroughly frosted. This vigorous shake is vital for proper dilution and temperature.
  7. Strain: Double-strain the mixture through the shaker's strainer (and ideally a fine mesh sieve) directly into the prepared, ice-filled Hurricane glass.
  8. Garnish: Spear the two Maraschino cherries and the orange wheel onto a cocktail pick. Place the garnish on the rim of the glass. Serve immediately with a robust straw.
