Ingredients:
- 1 box (15.25 oz / 432g) vanilla cake mix
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup (113g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
- 12 oz (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare cake batter according to box instructions. Bake in a 9x13 inch pan until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
- Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl. Use your hands or a fork to create fine crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add milk and beat until well combined.
- Add the frosting mixture to the crumbled cake. Mix until a dough-like consistency forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
- Use a cookie scoop (or your hands) to form small, even cake balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Place the baking sheet with the cake balls into the refrigerator or freezer to chill for at least 15 minutes.
- Melt chocolate chips and vegetable oil using a double boiler or in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring in between, until smooth and completely melted.
- Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Use a fork or dipping tool to remove the ball, tapping off excess chocolate.
- Immediately decorate with sprinkles (if using) before the chocolate sets. Place on parchment paper, then let the chocolate set completely.
