Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432g) vanilla cake mix
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup (113g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
  • 12 oz (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare cake batter according to box instructions. Bake in a 9x13 inch pan until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  2. Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl. Use your hands or a fork to create fine crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add milk and beat until well combined.
  4. Add the frosting mixture to the crumbled cake. Mix until a dough-like consistency forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Use a cookie scoop (or your hands) to form small, even cake balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Place the baking sheet with the cake balls into the refrigerator or freezer to chill for at least 15 minutes.
  7. Melt chocolate chips and vegetable oil using a double boiler or in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring in between, until smooth and completely melted.
  8. Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Use a fork or dipping tool to remove the ball, tapping off excess chocolate.
  9. Immediately decorate with sprinkles (if using) before the chocolate sets. Place on parchment paper, then let the chocolate set completely.
