Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (312.5g)
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder (10g)
  • ½ tsp salt (3g)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (227g)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar (400g)
  • 4 large eggs (240g)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract (15ml)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (227g)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (500g)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (30ml)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5ml)
  • Food coloring (black and green for decoration)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and line the cake pans with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with milk until just combined.
  7. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. In a bowl, beat the softened butter, then gradually add powdered sugar and cream until smooth. Add vanilla extract and mix.
  10. Level cooled cakes, then layer with buttercream between layers and on the outside. Use food coloring for soccer ball decoration.
  11. Slice and enjoy the soccer cake with friends and family.
