Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) flank or sirloin steak
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Juice of 2 limes (about ¼ cup or 60ml)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 4 Cuban rolls or crusty baguette-style rolls
- ½ cup (120ml) mayonnaise
- Slices of fresh tomato
- Slices of onion
- Optional: Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine minced garlic, lime juice, olive oil, cumin, salt, black pepper, and oregano. Add the steak to the marinade, ensuring it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the grill or frying pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard the excess marinade. Cook steak for 3-4 minutes per side or until it reaches your desired doneness (medium-rare is ideal).
- Remove steak from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
- Slice the Cuban rolls open. Spread mayonnaise on the insides of each roll. Layer with slices of steak, tomato, and onion. Garnish with fresh cilantro if using.
- Enjoy immediately, ideally with your favorite sides!
